The village of
Houtong Taiwan, was dying.

This photo is provided to aid in the imagery, but it is not of the village |
Once it had been a large producer of coal; but as the demand for coal declined in the 1990's, the population of 6000 began to dwindle away.
Eventually, only a few hundred people remained.
So it would remain for another twenty years, until 2008, when a group of volunteers organized themselves, so that they could provide better care for the abandoned cat population of the area.
They also posted photos of the little darlings on the internet, which attracted the attention of other cat lovers.
"meow - how can you resist our charms?"
And then the people began to come back again....not to live in Houtong, but to visit the cats! To photograph them, to feed them.
To pet, play and lavish them with all sorts of good attention!
